The more accounts, and the more contacts on those accounts the more work it has to do, equally if you do have a much larger number of local contacts this also adds to the workload. ![]() However other than searching you local Contacts list which for most people is modestly sized, you might have various network accounts defined via which Contacts and therefore the addressbook processes can also search, these could include. Obviously one would still not normally expect such a high level of CPU utilisation. They amongst other things handle requests from additional programs - in particular Apple Mail when it wants to try and find an email address to auto-complete the entry of that address when you start typing it in the 'to', or 'cc' fields. ![]() These processes are used by amongst others the Contacts application.
